Here was the question:

What's wrong here? "Amy Winehouse was in the process of adopting a girl from St Lucia, it has been reported."

Hm. A little teeny period is missing in "St," an abbreviation of "Saint." That's it as far as I can tell!

Many writers of British English, including the BBC, have completely done away with periods in abbreviations. For example, it's not uncommon to see "Mrs Smith." Given that Amy Winehouse was British, I suspect that this quote may come from a British source. If that be the case, the lack of a period is not necessarily incorrect.

Interesting, Anon. You might be right. It was in a U.S. newspaper but I can't remember if it was from a British source. Thanks for your comment.
