Criminal Sentence 539: Shoe Shopping

From something I'm editing:

"You, my friend, are a shoe in."

Are you calling me a shoe? Ha!

That should be "shoo-in."

I don't understand why this error keeps showing up. What the heck does the writer think "shoe-in" means? I've caught six (6!) instances of this mistake made by the professional writers and editors for Yahoo.
