Criminal Sentence 39: I Wouldn't

Overheard on a TV show:

"I wouldn't have had to if you would have told me the truth."

When you have an "if" clause, you don't use "would. In the above sentence, you use "had":

"I wouldn't have had to if you had told me the truth."
