While there is a case for using certain words (for instance "knockout" is definitely more impressive and graphic than "end"), more novice writers usually haven't thought the sentence through or revised at all. In the example by Anonymous, the writer could revise: "Police want to stop crime." Another tactic is to carefully consider every word that could be two words. This strategy works well with other compound words that should be, such as "timeframe" and "longterm."Mandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13127371606878696584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5957711516423189280.post-22971319597751234612009-02-27T07:44:00.000-08:002009-02-27T07:44:00.000-08:00May I suggest you ask them to read my blog? :)May I suggest you ask them to read my blog? :)The Sentence Sleuthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09253486236870691918noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5957711516423189280.post-18763799175700043192009-02-27T07:13:00.000-08:002009-02-27T07:13:00.000-08:00I work at a news station and I see this kind of er...I work at a news station and I see this kind of error all the time (ex.
