Criminal Sentence 543: I Question That!

From something I'm editing:

"A deluge of questions fill the air."

I'm embarrassed to say that I missed this error on my first pass (but not the second, luckily). Did you catch the error?

    Subject/verb agreement? "Deluge fills"

    I think it's something to do with air and water. A downpour usually comes groundward from the air, not vice-versa. And I don't think I've seen a flood, the other meaning of deluge, suddenly rise into the air either.

    Marilee is, of course, right. I completely missed that one. But on my own point, I don't think the semantic problem lies with 'deluge'. We often say he was deluged or showered with questions. It's that they fill the air that bothers me. But that's a minor point compared with Marilee's. Silly me!
